Brady tells it like it is

JACKSONVILLE--When you're sitting in your seat at The Pete, he's the man with all the answers.  Even before you ask the question.

From his spot on the sideline, Carl Brady comes over the public address system to announce starters, substitutes and whatever details the action necessitates.

While he's been on the job for less than a decade, he's been working on the voice that makes him so recognizable for nearly all his life.

"It's true that you're born with the basics," Brady said, "but you're left to develop the rest.

"... my sister used to pick on me because I'd really work on the pronunciation of words -you know, saying "white" instead of saying "whyatt."  I knew from a very early age I wanted to do radio and TV."

His work with the sporting events is just one part of who he is.  In the mornings, he's one-half of the Steve and Carl Morning Show on 97.9 WVOK in Oxford.  In addition to that, he also hosts East Alabama Today, a show on the local cable station, TV 24.

Brady uses his voice to stay close to sports doing P.A. and radio work for teams including Cherokee County to Jacksonville State.  He tabs himself as a big sports guy, and it was sports that helped to jump start his career.

After graduating from Emma Sansom in 1986, Brady attended Samford on a baseball scholarship.  It was there he got his start, doing Samford baseball on the campus radio station, and last year those humble beginning looked light years away as he picked up the Alabama Broadcasters Association's ABBY Award as the Small Market Radio Sportscaster of the Year.
