Missouri P.A. Announcer Receives State Honor

Merle Bowers, P.A. Announcer for Raytown South High School in Raytown, Missouri and NASPAA member, received the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Distinguished Service Award at the MIAAA State Conference on April 5, 2009 at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri.

The award, which was established in 1981, is presented to a limited number of individuals outside the field of interscholastic administration in recognition of their service to interscholastic athletics.  This year, 15 individuals received the award, of which two others were also public address announcers.

"This a tremendous honor," commented Brad Rumble, NASPAA Executive Director.  "Merle's passion for announcing and his professionalism have obviously made an impression.  The NASPAA could not be prouder of him."

Bowers was nominated by his school district for his outstanding work announcing football, basketball and volleyball.  Merle has been an NASPAA member since 2006 and has attended both NASPAA P.A. Announcers Clinics that were held in Kansas City.
